What is ps:eScript?

ps:eScript is an application framework for WebSpeed® and is fast becoming the de facto standard for developing browser-based applications on the OpenEdge™ platform. Designed and developed in 2003, by one of the co-founders of Proaxima, the ps:eScript framework has been used by both Progress Software Professional Services and Application Partners around the world.

What does ps:eScript provide?

ps:eScript has been designed to provide all the common functionality you require before building your application. It places no restrictions on the type or look-and-feel of website or application you want to build. Unlike some other frameworks, ps:eScript is not prescriptive, it is designed to help rather than hinder your development.

Features include:

New WebObject providing complete separation of HTML and 4GL allowing the HTML to be changed without having to recompile or redeploy your WebObjects
Context/Session Management with or without cookies
Automatic HTML selection based on user - for example: language, browser or device type, date/time, etc
Paging of search results either from direct database queries, data contained in temp-tables or SDOs
Automatic transfer of data from a submitted form, including data type checks
Event logging and site usage tracking
Transformation of generated documents - for example: PDF generation using FOP
Menus - dynamic, hierarchical menus
Security - users/groups, access control, menu visibility
Soft links - links between WebObjects can be changed without having to recompile or redeploy your WebObjects
POP3 and SMTP email clients - pure 4GL, no requirement for third-party products, other than a mail server of course
AppBuilder Integration - development tools are integrated with the AppBuilder, although they can also run standalone
